I’m sooo excited! Hubby and finally sucked it up and decided to get a new pc. He’s getting my old one and I get the brand new shiny one! We ordered most of the parts from Directron.com , they seem to have some of the best selection and prices for components. We tend to be pretty thrifty folks, so nothing is “bleeding edge,” but, this is going to be a very good gaming rig and I’m pretty happy with the results so far. We were expecting a bit of a wait on all the deliveries since this is a holiday weekend, but Jim was home early on Thursday and all the boxes were there waiting for him! He didn’t even tell me, just put it all together and had it running before I even got home from work. I wanted to help, but the surprise of having all the work done was really nice too.
One of the most impressive looking parts is the Scythe NINJA cpu cooler. That thing is HUGE! It sticks way up from the mb and it cools so well, you don’t even need to run the fan on it most of the time. And the whole thing is extremely quiet! You can barely tell it is running most of the time. We also went with a bad-ass power supply. Since the PS seems to be the most vulnerable part of most computers, we went over-sized and overbuilt. 610 watts seems enough, don’t you think?
I’m not too sure about the tower. I’d been using a micro atx and it was so small and tiny and the top made a nice spot for the kitty to sit upon and watch me compute. This one seems giant in comparison, but that’s not my problem with it. The buttons are kind of “sticky” and the front door seems poorly constructed with fragile feeling catches to keep it closed. Still, it has some nice features that I do like. The side and top panel are huge vents with a spongy type filter to keep out the inevitable cat hair and the big lcd dial on the front panel is always active and glowing. Inside there are tool-less drive bays which made it easy to put together. This may very well be a regular feature in the newer towers, but I wouldn’t really know. This is the first new pc we’ve built in nearly 4 years and as such, we are both very happy with how its all turned out so far.
This is the first I’ve posted on the subject, but I am an avid MMORPG player. Everquest 2 to be exact. I’ve been playing these games for 7+ years now, and in the process, I’ve learned to love and hate the community that surrounds these games. Love, in the way, that I’ve met some absolutely wonderful folks and hate, in the way that the people on the forums all seem to think they know better than anyone else, how these games should be run.
For all you Firefox users that hate myspace as much as I do. Here is a nifty little plug-in that will warn you when you are venturing into that wasteland of the internet.
I’m a big fan of electronica of all sorts, but I really rely on my hubby to help me find it. Coming from a larger metropolitan area we both were exposed to all sorts of music and that is really how we found each other (yes, we met at a bar  ). Nowadays, we are living in a much smaller community, with the only music “scene” being bluegrass. Being an hour outside of Gainesville, FL (a college town) gives us some opportunity to see a few other live events. But, being 40 yrs old also means that I don’t always have the desire to go hang out with a bunch of 18 yr olds. So, where does that leave us for music?
Well, fortunately, my hubby is a fiend when it comes to finding music. He’s introduced me to more interesting and different music than I would normally hear, even when we lived near Tampa. (thank you dear!) My tastes have changed quite dramatically since the old days of going to clubs and listening to dance music and though I do enjoy that to an extent (I’m not much of a dancer anymore) I’ve found whole sub-genres in electronica that really appeal to me now more than ever before.
Right now, I’m listening to a bit by Klute on his myspace page, which, even though I cannot stand myspace, it seems to be one more way for artists on the fringe to get their music out to the waiting public. And I can’t fault them for that. If you want to hear more from Klute there are quite a few videos of his on Youtube as well. I’m not madly in love with everything he does, its really kind of hit or miss, but the ones I do like, I really love. Also, you can check out Last.fm for some more.
Well, the blog is up and running and I’ve gotten two whole posts up there (yippie!), mainly for practice. This is the part that really stumps me . . . what to write about . . .
Well, this story caught my eye the other day. It even got coverage on Larry King as well. This guy doesn’t seem very credible to me. Its taken him 5 years to get this video to the public and only because a friend of his has an “alien initiative” he wants to force onto his local government ballot.
Tell me, does this look real to you?
To be honest, I do believe in alien life, in fact, I really hope there is somebody else out there. It seems to me that if there was alien life out there, living close enough to visit us, do you really think they’d be skulking about some random dude’s house, hoping to get an eyeful? The universe is big and there is room for many different people out there, but I have a feeling they have their own problems to deal with, peeping at our farmer’s daughters and probing the local nutjob is hardly the most effective use of their time.
Besides, I’ll take the real aliens over this guy’s alien any day . . . Us!
As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way. — Deep Thoughts With Jack Handey
